The great thing about these events, other than the obvious celebration for the afore-mentioned special person, is that you, me and everyone else gets to bask in the glow of someone having an amazing day. And that alone is something special. To bear witness to something truly good happening to another person and someone close to you is remarkable. Just being able to attend such an event makes us feel just a little bit better about ourselves, somehow. We get to share in the positive elation and almost high being experienced by another and it rubs off just a little. How can you not enjoy everything about it? I only experienced a small amount of jealousy but for me that is good. I am nowhere near the student he is and I could never be an engineer, the math is beyond me. Maybe I will dream of going back to school and completing an English degree? Actually I am hoping for an Honorary Doctorate someday, you know the day I become famous from all of the books I will write. I can dream right? And maybe they will have some social significance as well, I might as well dream big for the sake of dreaming.
That is another great side-effect from these moments; they inspire us to dream of what is possible. Something to reach for so that we too may enjoy that brief moment in the Sun. What a moment would be had if you were that person who reached an incredibly hard goal and others gathered around you to celebrate your accomplishment and they too felt just a small part of your happiness. My recommendation is to attend as many of these events as possible. Maybe they will have an effect on you and tomorrow will look totally different than anything you previously expected. Maybe your outlook, your plan or even your actions will be transformed into something amazing. I will say that will probably be the case and if it is, thank that person who so affected you and pass it on.
