As sayings go, this one is a pretty important to remember, or to put into practice; I think that goes without saying. I am sure whoever came up with this saying was probably talking about keeping clam in some crazy situation and that is good advice, but whenever I hear this I take it to the extreme literal sense picturing the actual loss of your head. Maybe this is my more macabre self; I have read too much Poe, Lovecraft and King to not go there. Anyone who knows me knows that I have always loved literature and movies that live in the worlds of horror, fantasy and suspense. The world of the vampire, which has been much maligned in recent years, is one of the most written about and most filmed genres and I have loved so many of them since I was a child. I own a few books and movies that from time to time I have to break out to read or watch.
F W Murnau, director of the classic silent movie Nosferatua, one of the foremost vampire flicks there has ever been, has had a bit of trouble lately. Now it has been a few years since his demise but his name and reputation have withstood the test of time thus far. German born, acclaimed director and will be forever be held in highest regard for his spooky work on Nosferatua, his take on Bram Stokers Dracula. I also love the movie, Shadow of the Vampire, which is loosely based on the making of his masterpiece. I get chills just thinking about the creation of the film that inspired so many vampire stories that followed. I guess with that resume, someone, and may I be clear on this matter that it was not me, has taken this poor chaps skull from his grave. His gravesite has been vandalized and his remains defiled.
In all seriousness, I don’t believe that I will ever reach such acclaim that I will have to worry that some extreme fan or some secret cult obsessed with skulls and my work, would come to take my head from my final resting place. With that being said, I want to make it abundantly clear that my final wishes will state that I will be cremated; hopefully according to my wishes, which will remain a secret. I guess one way to look at it would be that I would feel flattered that someone would want to possess my skull because of who I am.
A word of warning, to be fore warned is to be fore armed, if anyone were to steal my skull for their private collection or otherwise strange activities, I will haunt you; not in a good way I assure you. I will turn your life into a story that would be worth remembering, a story befitting a haunting and not one like the cute little ghost, I will conjure the imaginations of Poe and Lovecraft to create such a terror of your existence and I will laugh. Somewhere I do believe someone has made an error, to steal the skull of Mr. Murnau, a master of terror; a man who gave us such twisted delights and now resides in someone’s cupboard. I imagine he may be having quite a time, once again, creating terror, real terror. Now don’t lose your cool, stay calm, or if you will…don’t lose your head.
