Some days just remind you in no uncertain terms…you are human. Some days you are Superman, yes or Superwoman as the case may be. But there are days that smack you down and say not so fast. The body will remind you that even though you want to go one hundred miles an hour, it just isn’t going to happen today. Today was one of those days; or was it several days that just ran together because technically you need sleep to differentiate between them. This was one of them.
This wonderful multi day extravaganza started with a back muscle that would not let up even under the considerable influence of some Ibuprofen. As I lay there trying to fall into the blissful state of nightmares, if I’m lucky…because what writer doesn’t like nightmares, I shift in bed and the muscle goes I am here in a major way. Every movement reminds my brain that you should just really stay still. It’s like I am being held hostage by my angry muscle.
Now not to be undone, a really awesome old bad tooth that I had neglected as a child and sometimes as an adult, lost its filling while I was attempting to keep the afore mentioned tooth clean with a good brushing. This was not in the plan for the weekend or my Monday. And can I say it was not Monday yet. These things are supposed to happen on Monday. I believe it is in the rules somewhere. So my work schedule has to change, thus filling up my entire day, hopefully betting on me getting into see a new dentist, at the last moment, after a week of snow where most people couldn’t get out and probably had to reschedule to the one day I need in. Ugh! Ah but somehow I was due some good Karma and all of this happened as it needed. Plus, on a positive note the new dentist was awesome.
Now that the day was in full swing, I went to work to begin a long week, a six day stretch. This was the least of the worst. Now I don’t mean to sound all doom and gloom. This was by far not as bad a day as was had by many I am quite sure. It was just a reminder to me that my will and want sometimes comes secondary to the force that is life. And as I look at these moments it reminds me that I am more human than some of my characters in my writing. May I continue to live the lives of my characters. They do not suffer so trivial maladies. And that is why I love them so much. Bravo.
